Almost 50 years ago, a notorious church bombing in Birmingham, Ala. killed two of Fania Davis's closest friends—and launched Davis, then a teenager, into a lifetime of social justice work. Alex Briscoe was appointed director of the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency in January 2010. Previously he served as the agency's deputy director. Before joining the county, he was the director of the Chappell Hayes Health Center at McClymonds High School in West Oakland.
