Dr. Roberta G. Williams is a specialist in pediatric cardiology at the USC Keck School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Previously, she was the chair of pediatrics at the Keck school and vice president of pediatrics and academic affairs at Childrens Hospital. She earned her B.S. in zoology from Duke University and her medical degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She served as director of the echocardiography laboratory and medical director of the cardiothoracic intensive care service at Boston Children's Hospital. She went on to become chief of pediatric cardiology at UCLA, and eventually became interested in issues of health policy and the pediatric cardiology workforce. She served as governor of the Southern California chapter of the American College of Cardiology and was active at the state level in addressing issues of access to care, quality of care and reimbursement. In 1995, she became chair of pediatrics at the University of North Carolina, returning to Los Angeles to join USC in 2000. The author of two books on echocardiography, she serves as an appointee to the Cardiac Advisory Committee of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health. She has served as president of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Heart Association and has been chairman of the cardiology section of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2002, she received the Gifted Teacher Award from the American College of Cardiologists. She also received lifetime achievement recognition from the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography.
