Biography

Established in 1999, the California Health Care Safety Net Institute (SNI) is committed to advancing community health for California's low-income, racially and ethnically diverse populations. Our work builds on the belief that California's public hospitals and health systems are uniquely well-qualified and dedicated to addressing the health needs of vulnerable populations and at-risk communities. SNI examines key community health issues, demonstrates and evaluates innovative strategies, shares best practices, and promotes a broader understanding of the role of public hospitals and health systems in promoting community health.

“Racism in medicine is a national emergency.” That’s how journalist Nicholas St. Fleur characterized the crisis facing American health care this spring, as his team at STAT embarked on “Color Code,” an eight-episode series exploring medical mistrust in communities of color across the country. In this webinar, we’ll take inspiration from their work to discuss strategies and examples for telling stories about inequities, disparities and racism in health care systems. Sign-up here!
