About Myself:
I've been a journalist, editor and author since the 1970s. In the 1990s I was nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize for my groundbreaking work in the nascent field of elder care reporting, including my book "Caregiving: The Spiritual Journey of Love, Loss, and Renewal." I have appeared on the Today show and consulted on four PBS series on family caregiving, published in major US magazine (print and online) markets, and edited books on aging, health, and caregiving. More recently I am focused on issues of active aging, along with criminal justice reforms. I've been deeply and personally embedded in the California state prison system as an advocate for humanitarian reforms. Currently I am focused on writing about the intersection of food justice, criminal justice, and environmental justice. I am a contributing editor at the Journal on Active Aging.
