About Myself:
Elizabeth A. Williams, Ph.D. is the associate director of Minority Affairs for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) in Nashville, Tennessee. Trained as an applied medical anthropologist, Dr. Williams is interested in the subjects of cancer survivorship among people of color, health disparities, social empowerment and health equity for people of color and medically underserved. She conducts community-based participatory research (CBPR) projects, influences policy, and supports improved access to care and research for populations of color and the medically underserved.
As part of the VICC, Dr. Williams co-hosts and co-produces a weekly health-talk program on WFSK 88.1FM, Fisk University’s radio station. The program entitled, Health Watch: a Pathway to Better Health, features timely health issues; local and regional health events; local and national experts and community members in dialogue about health. The program is co-hosted by faculty and staff from Fisk University, Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University. The program, on air since April 2006, is available on the station’s web-stream (www.wfsk.org). Dr. Williams maintains the program’s blog, Ask Health Watch, which features weekly highlights from the program, links to relevant health sites, and poll questions. (http://askhealthwatch.blogspot.com)
