About Myself:
I've only had two jobs in my life. My first job - busboy for a steakhouse. My second job - a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I started working for my hometown newspaper when I was 15, as a high school intern.
I worked for the paper every summer until completing high school and then became a night cops reporter while studying journalism at Marquette University.
In 2007-08, I received a Nieman fellowship from Harvard University, where I studied the effects of hip-hop music on urban youth. I joined the editorial board as a columnist in 2008 and in 2014, I was promoted to engagement editor. In 2017, I became a projects reporter. In 2018, I was a Center for Health Journalism National Fellow.
I'm an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists, former president of the Wisconsin Black Media Association, and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Inc. I also was a Scripps Howard Award finalist in 2013.
I wrote two urban fiction novels, The Twist and Twisted and I'm currently working on a non-fiction novel titled: Warrior: The Story of Gerald McClellan.
