About Myself:
I'm a part time physical therapist at Robert Wood Johnson hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. I contribute to health blogs like https://mightydiets.com and MBG, HealthLine, and generally enjoy keeping up with health and wellness news.
Recently I've also really taken an interest in mindfulness, and how being "present" can improve both your physical and mental health.
A few things to consider about mindfulness:
1. It frees your mind: You might not realize it, but our minds are usually filled with static. Being present allows you to quiet this noise, and allow your mind to experience life on a deeper level.
2. It gives you new ideas: Under all of that static are a bunch of unexplored ideas and creativity. Turn off your smartphone, listen to the sounds around you (are those birds?!) and allow new ideas to bubble to the surface.
3. Improves focus: You know the phrase, "practice makes perfect," and that's also true with mindfulness. At first you might only be present for a moment or two, but keep trying. You'll have greater control over your concentration, and your productivity levels should improve noticeably.
Ok, I'm going to stop talking, but please take a minute today to try to be "present." It's also great for your health.
