About Myself:
Tamerra Griffin is a freelance journalist whose work focuses on the political and cultural affairs of people from the Black diaspora, primarily through the lenses of soccer and food. Most recently, she's written for ESPN Andscape, USA Today's Pro Soccer Wire, Eater SF, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
Tamerra began her career as a reporter at BuzzFeed News in New York, where she covered Sandra Bland’s death in Prairie View, TX; Black men bonding over their shared mental health struggles on social media; the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro; and several others. In 2017, she moved to Nairobi, Kenya, to become BuzzFeed News’ first East Africa correspondent. Some of her proudest work there includes covering presidential elections in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and South Africa; climate change in Madagascar; the political uprising in Sudan; and the censorship of an LGBT film. Before entering freelance journalism, she served as an editor at Rest of World and TechCabal, an African tech publication based in Lagos.
