Freya Rojo

I am in academia and an independent journalist who is blessed to be part of a group of passionate broadcasters who produce two radio shows in Spanish language for Pacifica Radio Los Angeles 90.7 FM and Santa Barbara 98.7 FM. I am a co-host and co- producer for Nuestra Voz, a public affairs and culture show that covers issues related to the Hispanic community in the world.  I also contribute with Enfoque Latino, one of the oldest Spanish language shows at KPFK.   One of my strongest interest is sharing information with and learning from the students of the Spanish language journalism program at California State University Northridge who are being trained to be the next generation of bilingual and bi-cultural journalists in the country.  Currenlty I am the advisor for the student newspaper EL Nuevo Sol published by the Journalism department and also a faculty in the Central American Studies program. I have special interest in covering health and environmental issues in Spanish language since there are limited outlets that focused on these issues. My educational background is in Communication Sciences and Latin American Studies.   I also have a close connection to medicine. My father was a rural physician in Southern Baja and I grew up witnessing deliveries, vaccinations, emergencies and attention to anyone regardless if they could afford the service.  I believe health care is a human right and sharing information along these lines is a responsibility.
