Alex Miller is a freelance writer whose articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, Wired and Vox, among other outlets. His Esquire essay, “Hell in the SRO,” won the 2023 ASJA Award for First-Person Essay. As a reporting fellow with the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, he has appeared on podcasts for KQED in San Francisco and the PRX Garage in Boston and in a televised spot with C-SPAN Book TV. In addition, several of his essays have been featured in the anthologies “The Byline Bible,” “The Chicago Neighborhood Guidebook” and “Going for Broke: Living on the Edge in the World’s Richest Country.”
