Andrew Holtz

Holtz is the author of three books about the depiction of medicine on TV: "The Medical Science of House, M.D." (Berkley/Penguin 2006), "The Real Grey's Anatomy" (Berkley/Penguin 2010), and "House, M.D. vs. Reality" (Berkley/Penguin 2011).

Holtz began reporting for CNN in 1980 and was a CNN Medical Correspondent for his last 10 years at the network.

Andrew Holtz was Senior News Anchor and Chief Anchor at MDiTV... a video & social networking health news and information resource for web and mobile devices that had a brief active life (2009-2010). Many of the video reports are still online.

Holtz is a charter member of the Association of Health Care Journalists. He served on the board of directors from 2000-2011, including four years as Board President. He served as Interim Executive Director in 2004-2005.

<p>Normally I would salivate over a workshop titled "Let Me Be Clear: Science Journalism in the Age of the Genome and Twitter." But then my building excitement and anticipation was doused by a real buzz kill in the middle of the sponsor logos.</p>

<p>…or is it losing?</p><p>As I was reading through the journal articles documenting the results of a long-term comparison of low-fat vs. low-carb diets, the results at timepoints along the way reminded me of the play-by-play of a tightly contested horse race. So that's how I presented the story... with the help of an animated graphic. This sort of playful presentation of research results can't be used all the time, but it broke the tedium for me... and I hope for viewers... without sacrificing accuracy or context.</p>
