Andy, the Vice President of Data Strategy at Velir, works with clients to help them communicate data to reach multiple audiences, in order to inform policymaking, raise public awareness of issues, empower communities and achieve other meaningful social change. Andy’s data work has primarily been in the health domain. At the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, Andy managed the foundation’s data-focused communication initiatives through the site, kidsdata.org. Andy also was a program officer at the California Health Care Foundation, where he oversaw the foundation’s open data funding and health care quality reporting work. In this role, Andy partnered with the state of California’s health agency to launch their open data program and managed an initiative to deliver hospital quality data to consumers. Most recently, Andy was in senior leadership at the civic startup, LiveStories, where he worked with governments and nonprofits to help them communicate data for impact. Andy began his career as a journalist at U.S. News & World Report, covering health care reform and education.
