Whooping Cough:

Pertussis, or whooping cough, remains a top concern for educators as California children now will be required to be vaccinated for the disease before entering school in the fall, Suzanne Bohan reports for the Contra Costa Times.

Health Reform: California lawmakers are moving forward with legislation to aid the state in rolling out national health reform, even as the U.S. House of Representatives voted Tues. to defund that reform, Christina Jewett reports for California Watch. The House defunding bill is not expected to pass in the Senate.

Food Safety: Better check those prepared salads in the fridge – some made by Taylor Farms Pacific are being recalled  nationwide after salmonella was detected in grape tomatoes used in the salads, Marissa Cevallos reports for the Los Angeles Times. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported.

Osama Bin Laden: David Whelan of Forbes.com says we may never know more about the health of Osama Bin Laden, who was rumored to need dialysis for kidney disease and Michael Millenson, who also blogs for Forbes, compares the cost of the war on terror to what the U.S. spends on health care.
