Chris Juhn is a staff photographer at the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder. In addition to photography, Juhn writes articles and heads up Black Business Spotlights, a section focused on interviewing Black-owned businesses in Minnesota. Juhn’s project will explore how the health care and services someone receives can be affected by the disability they have. Juhn will also look at how income level and race may exacerbate these care disparities.

Kelsey Joson who runs InControl-MN started her business after she became passionate about helping adults with disabilities. She had grown frustrated with the services and the quality of life adults with disabilities.

In 1998, the year I was diagnosed with autism, the CDC estimated that 1 in 500 children had a form of autism. Today, education and awareness have shifted those numbers to one in 68 children who are being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
