Eli Murray is a graphics editor at The New York Times, where he uses code to create graphics and crunch numbers on investigations. Before joining The New York Times, he spent eight years at the Tampa Bay Times as an investigative reporter specializing in data work. In 2022, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting, along with his colleagues Corey Johnson and Rebecca Woolington, for their work on the series “Poisoned,” which shined a spotlight on a Tampa-based lead smelter that was poisoning its workers and the community. He grew up in rural Illinois and received an associate degree from Sauk Valley Community College before pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Illinois.
