George Sampson

News and Prgram Director

I am the news & program director of 1590 KLIV, an all-news radio station in San Jose, Ca. While KLIV is a CNN Radio News affiliate, the primary focus of our coverage is on the cities, people and issues of Silicon Valley. KLIV is somewhat unique in that it is locally-owned and operated. We strive to be a full-service local news station that offers fast, accurate and useful local coverage. We also do long form stories, special reports and series. As News and Program Director I work with a great staff of news folks. Our staff is an interesting mix of seasoned pros and people who are breaking into news. On the reporting side I anchor KLIV's weekday morning drive news. For the past 6 years I have reported a daily feature called The Economy In Silicon Valley that looks at the economy through the eyes of business owners, nonprofit service providers, etc. Some other factoids of possible interest: I've taught Journalism at San Jose State and a course in radio at Santa Clara University. I worked in public television for 16 years as a producer, program host, and the annoying guy who always wants you to call in with a pledge. I look forward to connecting with other journalists through this Fellowship.
