Gina Torino

Associate Professor of Human Development; Licensed Psychologist

Gina C. Torino, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Human Development at SUNY Empire State College and a licensed psychologist in the state of New York. Dr. Torino has authored scholarly articles and book chapters on racial/gender microaggressions, White racial identity development, the teaching strategies used to cultivate culturally competent clinicians, and related topics. She and her colleagues were recently awarded the American Psychological Foundation’s 2017 Visionary Fund Grant to explore the experience and impact of microaggressions on homeless youth with respect to health and health seeking behaviors. In addition, her upcoming co-edited book entitled, “Microaggression Theory: Influence and Implications,” (Torino, Rivera, Capodilupo, Nadal, & Sue, 2018) will present cutting-edge reviews of microaggression research, explore controversies surrounding the theory, discuss its relationship to the sociopolitical dynamics of our society, and offer solutions in combatting microaggressions at the individual, institutional, and societal levels.
