Heather Somerville is a reporter for Reuters. She previously worked for The Fresno Bee, the daily newspaper for California's Central Valley, where she has covered higher education since March 2011. She has a background in investigative reporting and experience covering national security, immigration and local government. She received a Master’s of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University in 2010.
Heather got her start in journalism in 2008 with The Charlotte Observer, and has reported for weekly newspapers across North Carolina and online news sites including the Christian Science Monitor, Politics Daily, UPI and McClatchy News. She earned an Online News Association Award for her work through the Medill National Security Journalism Project, a three-month investigative project into climate change and national security.
Heather received a B.A. in Creative Writing from Colorado State University and has volunteered and backpacked throughout Latin America since 2000. When she's not on deadline, Heather is a yogi, a rock climber and – despite any and all collapses the team has endured – a die-hard Red Sox fan.
