Erin McGroarty is an award-winning policy reporter who currently covers health and policy for The Cap Times. Her recent reporting has covered abortion policy in a post-Roe landscape, addiction and mental health, prison healthcare practices and gaps in rural health resources. Formerly, McGroarty was a political journalist in her home state of Alaska, where she produced award-winning coverage of congressional climate change reports and state budget cut effects on social services. She is a 2026 Association of Health Care Journalists conference fellow. She was also a 2025 Ukraine fellow with the International Women's Media Foundation, a 2023 Investigative Reporters and Editors NICAR conference fellow, a 2022 Connect Scholar with the Association for LGBTQ+ Journalists and a 2021 fellow with the Center for Journalism Ethics, where she is now an advisory board member. Her reporting has been recognized by the Milwaukee Press Club, Wisconsin Newspaper Association, the National Center on Disability and Journalism, and the Alaska Press Club.
