Atavia Reed is an award-winning journalist currently covering South Side news and culture at Block Club Chicago. Her reporting has uncovered illegal junkyards operating on city-owned land, spotlighted activists and artists, and delved into the historic and cultural impact of Black Chicago. She received the 2024 Chicago Journalists Association’s Sarah Brown Boyden Award for her story on artist Tonika Lewis Johnson’s work to help Englewood families keep their homes. She is a former Report for America corps member.
