Nik Altenberg is an investigative journalist based in Oakland, California who works as a bilingual reporter and editor for Santa Cruz Local and freelances in the Bay Area. Her reporting interests include housing, health, law enforcement, government accountability, youth, migration and climate. In 2025, her team at Santa Cruz Local was one of six finalists for the Toner Prize for Excellence in Local Political Reporting.
