I am a faculty member in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. I am leading a multidisciplinary collaborative effort at USC, the Immigrant Health Initiative (iHi), to explore a new public health approach to reduce the health disparities. There is a wealth of healthy wisdom and practices in various cultures carried by immigrants, which often gets lost in the acculturation process resulting in the rising chronic disease risks among settled immigrants. The iHi intends to understand the immigrant experiences and identify their health strengths and weaknesses, in order to help them keep their healthy traditions to contribute to the rebuilding of a new healthy American lifestyle. The iHi invites all interested individuals to join the effort.
