Manny Ramos is an investigative reporter at Block Club Chicago who's written on issues facing underreported areas in Chicago. Recently, his stories have focused on systemic issues facing safety-net hospitals and the impact of Operation Midway Blitz. Ramos has won and was runner-up to many prestigious awards including the National Headliner Award, National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence award, A-Mark Prize for Investigative Reporting and Editing, the Driehaus Foundation Awards for Investigative Reporting, and the Chicago Headline Club’s Peter Lisagor Awards. Ramos’ Impact Fund project will investigate troubling conditions of safety-net hospitals in Chicago and the state of Illinois as financial uncertainty intensifies.
