Alexandra Martinez is a senior news reporter at Prism, where she covers gender justice, immigration, workers’ rights, and other social issues. Her work also has appeared in VICE, CNN, Burnaway Magazine, Hyperallergic, and The Art Newspaper. Her short documentary “El Soldador,” commissioned through Oolite Arts x Community Justice Project’s Pass the Mic program, is now streaming on PBS, and in 2024 she received a Short- Form Writing grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant program. Her reporting on Miami’s ancient Tequesta archaeological site received an honorable mention in the 2024 Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards for excellence, and her reporting on Miami’s affordable housing crisis was recognized as a 2023 finalist. For her Impact Fund project, Martinez is investigating Florida’s school choice scholarship system for students with disabilities and whether families are facing reimbursement delays, denials, and other barriers to accessing services their children need. The project will examine how public funds are managed by a private nonprofit and what that means for transparency, accountability, and child and family well-being.
