Elder Health: Despite its healthy profits, the home health industry is fighting removal of a loophole in federal law that allows it to pay less than minimum wage (now $7.25 an hour) to some workers, Kelly Kennedy reports for USA Today.

Avastin: The scandal grows over counterfeit cancer drug Avastin that found its way to 19 clinics in California, Texas and Illinois, with patients expressing shock and outrage, Katie Moisse reports for ABC News. The counterfeit version of the drug does not contain the active tumor-shrinking ingredient.

Obesity: The number of oversized seniors on Medicare is rising, with each obese Medicare recipient costing taxpayers an extra $149 in health costs each year, according to a new study, Kerry Grens reports for Reuters. Chronic obesity-related conditions like diabetes and heart disease are to blame for the higher costs.

UCLA Gift: Public health officials don't get paid that well, so who knew Los Angeles County's public health director had $50 million to give to the University of California-Los Angeles' school of public health? The money came from Dr. Jonathan Fielding's stock in a Texas investment firm, Anna Gorman reports for the Los Angeles Times.
