California School Kids Without Whooping Cough Booster Shots Sent Home By Thousands
Whooping Cough: California schools now are sending home thousands of middle and high school students who haven't had their mandatory whooping cough/pertussis booster shots, fearing new cases of the resurgent childhood disease, Melody Gutierrez and Phillip Reese report for the Sacramento Bee.
Nutrition: Not enough kids drink low-fat (1 percent) or non-fat milk, which is recommended by health experts to avoid unnecessary fat and calories, according to a new CDC report. However, nearly half of kids in the national NHANES health study report drinking reduced fat milk (2 percent).
Medicaid: The health of hundreds of thousands of Americans with life-threatening illnesses is threatened by deep cuts to Medicaid being considered nationwide, according to advocacy groups who evaluated how many people with cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and chronic lung disease depend on the federal health program for the poor, Julian Pecquet reports for The Hill's HealthWatch blog.
