Starting the Journey

It's been 2 weeks since the National Health Journalism Fellowship Convening 2010.  I've felt a burst of renewed energy since meeting and bonding with my fellow fellows and WONDERFUL presenters.  I feel blessed to have been chosen to be part of such an esteemed group! 

Warm fuzzy moments from the convening are now relegated to memories, Facebook friends and emails; time to buckle down and juggle family, community,  the "regular job", freelancing and the two public health stories (1 - problem gambling and 2-gangs). Not a problem!  My multi-tasking OCD ways have kicked in and have begun making lists and mapping the stories.  (I'm either superwoman or in MAJOR denial!)

I'm excited to be provided support and platform to share public health issues in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander communities.  The highly diverse ethnic "clusters" are often over-looked or under reported.  The small amount of information that is out there is either aggragate, skewing and hiding the issues - OR - lacks the cultural competence to give a true picture of the story and the community.  

I have my work cut out for me.
