Tamerra Griffin is a freelance journalist whose work focuses on the political and social affairs of people from the Black diaspora, most recently as a food writer for Eater and the San Francisco Chronicle, and as a women’s soccer reporter for ESPN Andscape. She began her career as a general assignment reporter at BuzzFeed News, where she covered Sandra Bland’s death in Prairie View, TX; Black men bonding over their shared mental health struggles on social media; the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro; and several others. In 2017, she moved to Nairobi to become BuzzFeed News’ first East Africa correspondent, where she wrote about the presidential elections in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and South Africa; climate change in Madagascar; the political uprising in Sudan; and the censorship of an LGBT film, among others. Tamerra has also served as an editor at Rest of World and TechCabal, an African tech publication based in Lagos.
