I started writing about innovation in biotechnology and public health several years ago because I wanted to describe the changes I saw happening around me in technology and medical research. I gravitated to healthcare issues because I also wanted to provide more dimensionality to my stories and show the costs and benefits of innovation in everyday life.
Wendy Wolfson had planned an essay for NPR's health desk about her experiences getting her son help for disruptive behavior. Instead, she found herself sitting in a hospital bed with a rare heart condition associated with extreme stress. Her story quickly changed directions.
That Friday, I was dizzy and sick to my stomach with what felt like food poisoning, only sometimes my chest throbbed. I declined my husband's offer of a ride to the emergency room because I had to prepare for a crucial school meeting on Monday....

<p>Front Groups opposing healthcare reform have gone virtual. You know those games those people with seemingly lots of spare time on their hands play on Facebook? The <em>Silicon Alley Insider</em> reports that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/health-insures-caught-paying-facebook-us… groups are paying gamers </a>in fake currency if they take surveys. The surveys then automatically send a letter opposing healthcare to Congress.
