In 2001, at age eleven, Juan Santiago emigrated from Oaxaca Mexico to San Joaquin Valley in California. Living in one of the poorest region in the country, Juan has had the opportunity to see first-hand the daily experiences of immigrant and refugee communities across the Valley, giving him ample knowledge of challenge these under represented communities encounter and enabling him to produce provocative and thoughtful news stories. In 2007, Juan joined Radio Bilingue to help host La Hora Mixteca, a multilingual-Sunday-programming designed to provide a space amongst the diaspora of the Mexican indigenous communities both in Mexico and in the U.S. In 2012, after successfully completing an internship within the news department, Juan join the news team and since then has remained a freelance news reporter for the station. He has filed news reports on health, immigration, environment, and on education. Juan is currently a student at California State University, Fresno. He is pursuing a career in the realm of political science and international political economy.
Fresno County was obligated to provide care to everyone who needed it, regardless of their immigration status. Now a judge has determined that the county no longer has to offer them medical services.
