Wisconsin Black babies are at risk. Help the Cap Times tell this story.

The story was originally published in The Cap Times with support from our 2026 National Fellowship.

Black babies in Wisconsin continue to die at far higher rates than babies of other races, and behind the statistics are families, caregivers and communities with stories that may shed light and lead to solutions.

Cap Times reporter Erin McGroarty is investigating Wisconsin’s ongoing Black infant mortality crisis with the support of a national fellowship from the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism. At the core mission of this project, Erin seeks to elevate the voices of those with lived experience and center the communities most deeply affected by this crisis.

Erin is looking to speak with parents, relatives, birth workers, healthcare providers, advocates and others with experiences or insights related to Black infant mortality, pregnancy, childbirth and infant health in Wisconsin.

If you would like to share your perspective, please complete our short community survey. You can answer only the questions you’re comfortable with, and providing your personal information is optional. Completing the survey does not mean your story will be published: The Cap Times will discuss how your information could be used with you before publishing any part of it.

Your experiences and ideas can help shape reporting that better reflects the realities facing Wisconsin families.
