I'm an independent health policy analyst, researcher, editor/writer and consumer advocate. I contribute regularly to Consumer Reports, Health Affairs and Kaiser Health News, and blog regularly at The Health Care Blog, MedShadow and JustCare. I was Senior Director for Communications at the National Quality Forum in 2012. Prior to that, I was a Senior Health Policy Analyst at Consumers Union/Consumer Reports (2009-2011) and Managing Editor, Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs (2004-2008). Before that, I was Director of Research and Policy at the National Institute for Healthcare Management (2000-2003) and Senior Policy Analyst at the National Coalition on Health Care (1998-1999). From 1979 to 1997, I was a medical and health policy journalist at U.S. News & World Report, USA TODAY, and Business&Health magazine. I have an MPH from Johns Hopkins University and did my undergraduate work at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
