Avishay Artsy is a news reporter and producer at Southern California public radio station KCRW, and a contributing writer for the Jewish Journal. His Fellowship project will look at current research into health disparities among ethnic communities in Los Angeles. He formerly worked as a producer on the business show Marketplace and on New Hampshire Public Radio's Word of Mouth. He's a current recipient of CalHumanities' Community Stories grant. Some past fellowships he participated in include SoundVision Productions' Science Literacy Project, German Marshall Fund's Journalism Fellowship, Religious Newswriters Association's Lilly Scholarship, and “Medicine in the Media” at Dartmouth College. My project will look at current research into cancers that disproportionately affect ethnic minorities, specifically Jewish and African-American communities. I will examine medical discoveries and ongoing clinical trials that hope to shed light on breast and ovarian cancer, male breast and prostat
