Gabriela Ramírez is a Venezuelan multimedia and investigative journalist based between Berlin and New York City. She specializes in cross-border collaborations that amplify underrepresented voices. From Venezuela’s political turmoil to border violence in Europe and climate change’s toll on coastal communities, she merges data-driven analysis with human-centered storytelling, often through a gender lens. As a freelance journalist, her work has been published in El País, The Guardian, Byline Times, BBC Earth and Suddeutsche Zeitung. Her reporting has earned international recognition, including the European Press Prize, the Lorenzo Natali Prize, and the Fetisov Journalism Award. She currently serves as a multimedia editor at Unbias The News, a global cross-border newsroom.
With her reporting partner, Tina Xu, Ramírez will investigate the national trend of medical deportations, in which vulnerable patients who are undocumented and uninsured are deported directly from the hospital, in violation of patients’ rights and informed consent procedures, sometimes while unconscious – and the families and advocates who are fighting back.
