Health and Medicine Blog Carnivals Worth Following

One of my New Year's resolutions is to read more of the insightful health and medicine blog posts that pop up in my RSS feed. One good way to keep up with those posts is to follow blog carnivals, which are periodic round-ups of blog posts on similar topics, either by email or RSS.

Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Grand Rounds:  One of the granddaddies (2004) of health blog carnivals, this weekly round-up offers posts from leading medical bloggers. It's now hosted by Grand Rounds founder Dr. Nick Genes of Blogborygmi and Dr. Val Jones of BetterHealth.com.

2. Health Wonk Review: Hosted by a rotating group of bloggers, this health policy-focused carnival recently included posts on efforts to overturn health reform, a hard look at accountable care organizations and retiree health benefits.

3. Cavalcade of Risk: Henry Stern of InsureBlog coordinates this blog carnival of risk and insurance-related posts, many of which deal with health insurance.

4. Carnival of Journalism: Started by Spot.us founder David Cohn, the December edition featured blogs on the best Christmas presents journalists could receive from programmers and vice versa.

Other great but apparently on-hiatus carnivals include The Benefits Package, hosted by Evan Falchuk of BestDoctors.com, which focuses on employee benefits, and Change of Shift, a compendium of great nursing blog posts hosted by Emergiblog's Kim McAllister. It's worth checking out their archives.

I've contacted Falchuk and McAllister to see if these carnivals will be resurrected at any point and will let you know what I hear.
