The Journalists in Aging Fellowship, The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and New America Media (NAM)
From the website: The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and New America Media (NAM) are welcoming applications — from journalists who cover issues in aging and/or who work for ethnic media outlets serving U.S. communities — for the fifth year of a joint fellowship program now supported by a grant from AARP. Stories resulting from the last four years are available on GSA's website. Once again, the John A. Hartford Foundation also is supporting one fellow, who will report on topics specifically related to the health and health care of older Americans.
Deadline: July 11, 2014
Requirements: Each fellow will be expected to participate in a special one-day preconference session (Wednesday, November 5) and at least two days of general meeting sessions (Thursday, November 6, and Friday, November 7). Fellows will also commit to completing one short-term story about any aspect of the meeting and a long-term in-depth project of their own design. The latter must be outlined in a one-to-two page proposal.
AHCJ-NLM Health Journalism Fellowships, The Association of Health Care Journalists
From the website: The Association of Health Care Journalists has teamed up with the National Library of Medicine to present the AHCJ-NLM Fellowships. AHCJ will select four journalists to spend a week on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
Deadline: July 28, 2014
Requirements: Candidates should be working journalists who qualify for AHCJ membership. The fellowship includes AHCJ membership (new or renewed), travel expenses within the United States, a food stipend and lodging. The 2014 fellowship will be Sept. 7-11.
