Awards, Fellowships and Workshops
2015 California Health Journalism Fellowship, USC Annenberg School of Journalism
From the website:
Taught by prize-winning journalists, community health leaders, policy analysts and health care experts, the all-expenses-paid 2015 California Health Journalism Fellowship will focus on two broad themes: how neighborhood life, social inequities, race, education and the environment influence health, and the promise of health reform and health system innovation. This year, for the first time, we are pleased to be able to provide a $1,000 reporting stipend to participating journalists to help pay some of the costs associated with ambitious reporting projects. The Fellowship will meet March 1-5 in Los Angeles.
Deadline: December 1, 2014
Requirements: The program is open to all journalists interested in health reporting, not just those on the health beat. We invite participation from print, broadcast and multimedia journalists working for or contributing to mainstream and ethnic media outlets in California. Students are not eligible, and a minimum of three years of professional experience is preferred. Click here for details about how to apply.
Fellowship on the Economics of Aging and Work, The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research
From the website: This fellowship is focused on issues surrounding the aging workforce in the United States. The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research is offering the fellowship in partnership with The Associated Press Media Editors (APME) and with funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. One carefully selected journalist will spend 10 months working at the AP-NORC Center on special research and reporting projects.
Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis from September 10, 2014, until a candidate is selected.
Requirements: The fellow will be selected through a national competition open to journalists with at least five years of experience. Journalists working in text, radio, television, and online are eligible to apply.
