For Johnson & Johnson, Even More Recalls
Here's what we're checking out today:
Product Safety: Could this year get any worse for Johnson & Johnson? After a year of embarrassing product recalls including the largest recall ever of children's medicine, the consumer products company has recalled 12 million bottles of Mylanta because traces of alcohol in the antacid. Did we mention that J&J also just broadened its recall of disposable contact lenses because they were tainted with decanoic acid, a manufacturing byproduct which can cause stinging? Yeesh.
Worms: Don't try this at home: a California man swallowed roundworm eggs to ease his ulcerative colitis. It appears to have worked, doctors say, according to a report from ABC News. Maybe he put them in a smoothie?
Prevention: As we've reported before, the new Healthy People 2020 goals will emphasize lifestyle changes to make Americans healthier. Put down that doughnut and go develop a Healthy People app, for which the feds will award up to $4,000. Not exactly the X-Prize.
Health Insurance: In the unwelcome news category, a new Commonwealth Fund report finds that employers' premiums for family health insurance have shot up by 41 percent from 2003 to 2009. Check out your state's findings here.
