Santa Cruz County health insurance agents stressed as reforms kick in

Ask people who sell health insurance for a living if they are prepared to explain the Affordable Care Act policies coming into the market on Oct. 1, and you will get an earful. Agents must be certified to explain and compare options for customers but so far, none in California is certified. Local agents are skipping vacation to make sure they are available to participate in the mandated training, for which the time and place have yet to be announced. They worry people will toss out the letters from insurers telling them their policy is going away, making it harder for agents to look up their old policy and find something similar.
