Aaron Nelsen is a freelancer whose coverage has focused on U.S.-Mexico border policies and Latin America. Nelsen was the Rio Grande Valley bureau chief for the San Antonio Express-News, an editor for the Asheville Citizen Times and a correspondent for Time Magazine in Chile, and has contributed to Texas Monthly, the New York Times and the Guardian Long Read. He was a Knight-Wallace fellow at the University of Michigan in 2018-2019. He has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree in international relations from Tufts University.
