
Michael Lyle is an award-winning journalist with Nevada Current, a nonprofit media outlet within the States Newsroom network. He reports on housing, homelessness, criminal justice policy, and state and local government. Lyle started his career at View Neighborhood News, the community edition of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. During his seven years with the R-J, he won several first place awards from the Nevada Press Association and was named its 2011 Journalist of Merit. He left the paper in 2017 and spent a year as a freelance journalist accumulating bylines at The Washington Post, Desert Companion and Vegas Seven. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies and later earned a master’s degree in communications at Syracuse University. He was an investigative story fellow with the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education in 2023, and was selected for a Covering Equitable Community Development Fellowship with the National Press Foundation in 2024.
