At its monthly board meeting in March of 2017, Covered California released a preliminary analysis of the how potential premium subsidy changes included in the then recently introduced "American Health Care Act" or "Trumpcare" would impact consumers.
A major change in the proposal was that instead of financial assistance being based on multiple factors including income, family size and place of residence, it would have been a flat fee based strictly on age. That would have seriously affected thousands of seniors living in the state’s most expensive regions.
The proposed Republican bill would have also shortened the enrollment period for Covered California and cut the expansion of Medicaid.
